Training

ADDP will host a two-day managed care series that will cover (a) basics of state and federal funding and managed care on the first day and (b) the impact of managed care on Massachusetts and its community-based providers on the second day.

It is highly encouraged that those new to managed care attend the first session on April 7 as it will provide a foundation needed for the May 17 training.

Why attend?

Ever wonder what the relationships are between different federal and state agencies, such as the Centers for Medicare and Medicare Services’ (CMS), Massachusetts’ Medicaid or MassHealth, and Massachusetts’ Department of Developmental Services (DDS)?

Do you question all the various basic intricacies of MassHealth funding and where MassHealth is involved throughout the system?

Want to know what the managed care buzz is about, and the impact it will have on the developmental disability field in the next couple years?  Do you want to know implications of managed care throughout the system? Want to be better prepared to advocate for these changes to come?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then these sessions are for you.

The first session will cover a basic foundation of managed care, CMS, DDS, and MassHealth.

The second session will include an in-depth analysis and impact of managed care on the provider community.

Both trainings will include an interactive process allowing opportunities for questions and discussion from the audience.

Description of Part 2 Training

On May 17, Bernadette Di Re, UnitedHealthCare Community Plans of Massachusetts and Rhode Island CEO and their SCO team will discuss the following areas:

  • Overview and impact of Massachusetts’ Medicare and Medicaid dual eligible demonstration, also known as Senior Care Options (SCOs)
  • Description of Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), how PACE providers are involved in the duals project, and impact of PACE to consumers and other providers
  • Overview of Massachusetts’ managed care re-design efforts and accountable care organization (ACO) models and what it means for providers
  • National perspective of what is occurring in other states regarding managed care efforts and its impact on those states

Target Audience

The intended audience is program managers, directors, and assistant directors and senior executives.  Again, if you are unfamiliar with managed care and how state and federal funding occurs, it will be necessary for you to attend the first session on April 7.
