Shared Living Panel Discussion

Would you like to learn more about the Shared Living model from your colleagues who are currently providing these services?  ADDP is hosting a panel discussion comprised of current Shared Living providers, who are representative of various regions and sizes of organizations throughout the Commonwealth.  When registering, you will be asked to answer a few questions that will help shape the training around the topics you feel are most important.

Intended Audience:

Provider agencies who:

  • Recently started a Shared Living program
  • Are qualified to provide Shared Living services, but are not yet providing these services
  • Want to expand your agency’s current Shared Living program

Registration is limited to 2 attendees per agency.

Training description

Attendees will hear from a DDS official about the Shared Living Campaign to promote the model and from three panels of providers who are currently providing Shared Living services.  Following the discussion, each panel will dedicate time for a question & answer session. The panels will cover the following topics:

Panel 1:  Setting it Up

Speakers:  Leslie Courtney – Vice President of Seven Hills Family Services, David Placido – Director of Shared Living at HMEA, Rich Niedel – Program Director at The Association For Community Living,  Anita Monestime – Director for Shared Living & Adult Family Care at Advocates

  • Defining your agency’s goals for Shared Living
  • Recruiting staff
  • Recruiting caregivers
  • Evaluating your employer risk tolerance (D.O.L, Social Security requirements)
  • Establishing policy & procedures around Shared Living
  • Outreach, information, PR
  • Referral to placement and beyond

Panel 2:  Contracting & Budgeting

Speakers:  Keith Duclos – Director of Adult Shared Living at the May Institute, Jared Moore – Northeast Area Director for Seven Hills Family Services, others TBD

  • Preliminary budgets
  • DDS short-term funding options
  • Scaling for growth
  • Re-organizing your residential system to accommodate Shared Living
  • Challenges of accessibility and affordability in housing

Panel 3:  Embracing the Service

Speakers:  Clinician (TBD), Nurse (TBD), 2 Caregivers & Individuals (TBD)

  • Addressing clinical and health issues
  • Crisis challenge and response
  • Assisting individuals to age in place and die with dignity
  • What happens when it doesn’t work?
  • Supporting families

Admission

ADDP Member Admission: $85

ADDP Non-member Admission: $115

Admission fee includes three presentations, coffee, continental breakfast, light refreshments, and lunch. (PLEASE NOTE IF YOU HAVE ANY DIETARY RESTRICTIONS DURING REGISTRATION)
