
ALEC Training: Interacting with First Responders in the Developmental Disabilities Field

Does your agency want to learn how to build an effective working relationship or improve its relationship with your local police and first responders?
If you answered yes, then you do not want to miss out on this training provided by ALEC: Autism and Law Enforcement Education Coalition at The Arc of South Norfolk.
Purpose
The goal of the training is to provide staff from I/DD agencies invaluable knowledge, skills, and tools to utilize during interactions with police officers, courtroom personnel, firefighters, and EMTs/paramedics.
Learning Outcomes
- Learn useful tips and resources to connect your agency with local public safety and law enforcement
- Learn tools to use in assessing the risk of a situation
- Learn how to cultivate relationships with police and emergency first responders in your community prior to any potential emergency situations
Given sensitive material, registrants can join a debriefing session at a later date in the spring in which additional workplace safety tips from a local police department will be provided at a minimal cost. Debriefing date will be announced at first training.
Intended audience
Executives, directors, managers, and other interested parties.
Note: Powerful information will be shared, so this training may not be appropriate for some individuals. This is not a train the trainer session (given requirements of ALEC trainers).
Speaker
Captain Bill Cannata, Westwood MA Fire Department Captain and ALEC Statewide Project Coordinator
Mr. Cannata is a first responder with direct knowledge of autism through a family member.
