Individuals with developmental disabilities (DD) are living longer than previous generations due to advances in several areas, such as medicine and disability policy. Given individuals with DD are aging with typical life-ending conditions in the community, understanding how to provide care in group home settings is crucial when reaching end of life. Our goal is to support individuals’ choice to receive care in their homes rather than in nursing homes/rehabilitation facilities or hospitals for the end of their life. This presentation in intended to educate nurses and program managers working in a community-based group home setting how to care for and support individuals with DD at end of life. We will also discuss hospice services and ways to support staff, caregivers, family, and housemates.
